Dr. Paul Bearer

This ad is from August 24, 1968. I am still not sure when exactly Dick Bennick's character switched from Count Shockula to Dr. Paul Bearer as host . I am going to keep doing research. One thing for sure, I was a big fan of Shock Theatre and all of the shows Dick Bennick hosted during his time at WGHP. Even after he left the Triad and moved to Florida, video segments of Dr. Paul Bearer were still used on Shock Theatre well into the seventies.

I owe my love of Halloween and scary movies to Dr. Paul Bearer. I used to watch on Saturday nights while my parents played cards in the kitchen. Thanks for the memories!

We lived next to the Bennicks (or Bennets, so I thought,) for a short while--they had/have a son named Ricky and I do remember "Shock Theatre" as being one of my all-time favorites. Often I just couldn't 'hang' until the 2 or 3:00 AM run-time--

...I still remember those times...

I used to watch Shock Theatre every Saturday night, and I suspect there was a fellow who followed Bennick in the late 1960s and early 1970s. I thank my late parents for allowing me to watch the show. Lee Cheek
